With ‘Get Ready for Global Teaching!’, we are formalising and expanding our international collaboration. In doing so, we are focusing in particular on the issues of global inequality, colonial mindsets and post-migrant societies.
The "Get Ready for Global Teaching!" project aims to offer future teachers opportunities to further develop their cultural and linguistic sensitivity, and to reflect on key issues and challenges from a global perspective through direct international exchange, as called for in the concept of Global Citizenship Education.
The aim is to train teachers to design educational processes within linguistically and culturally diverse groups in a way that is inclusive and sensitive to diversity and discrimination. International exchange and networking contribute to the further development of these skills through direct and personal experience.
The project will run until the end of 2029 and is being carried out in cooperation with six international partner universities.
With ‘Get Ready for Global Teaching!’, we are formalising and expanding our international collaboration. In doing so, we are focusing in particular on the issues of global inequality, colonial mindsets and post-migrant societies.
Various formats are planned for the duration of the project, enabling students and staff from our university and the participating partner universities in Ghana, Israel, Cameroon, Laos, the UK and the USA to engage with one another. These include Summer and Winter schools, Blended Mobility Programmes and an international networking conference, as well as support for study visits and guest lectureships. Thematically, these formats are aligned with our university’s three profile areas, which are compatible with the concept of Global Citizenship Education: educational processes in the digital world, education in a democratic society, and STEM in a culture of sustainability.
The focus of exchanges with partners in the Global North is on reflecting on the challenges facing post-migrant societies in terms of school education and social participation. Exchange with partners in the Global South is intended to open up a broader perspective: students are to engage with global inequality and critically examine colonial, Western-influenced hegemonic patterns of thought in everyday life, knowledge transfer and school contexts.
The project implements activities in three areas:
Structural anchoring of internationalisation within primary and lower secondary teacher education programmes
Promotion of international exchange
Networking
In this project, we are collaborating with the following partner universities:
The project creates a unique space where future educators from different countries can compare their systems, reflect on diversity and learn collaboratively. In a world of growing polarisation, this kind of shared learning is essential for promoting dialogue, empathy and democratic values.
The University of Cape Coast, Institute of Education’s collaboration with Karlsruhe University of Education matters to us because both institutions focus on training teacher trainees, and this partnership gives us the opportunity to learn from each other in practical ways. Through the guest lecturership, we share experiences and ideas while also learning new teaching approaches and research perspectives. The exchange benefits both institutions, enriches our teaching and research, and helps prepare future educators to work confidently in an increasingly connected world.
At our university, the project is implemented under the responsibility of the International Office and the Vice-Rectorate for Student Affairs, Teaching and International Relations.
